The procedural, story-driven game by DigixArt is scheduled for release in 2021.

One of several announcements made during The Game Awards 2020 was DigixArt’s upcoming road trip adventure game Road 96.

Road 96 is created by the studio behind fantasy rhythm game Lost in Harmony and narrative-driven adventure 11:11: Memories Retold; the game is a procedural, story-driven adventure set in the ’90s and inspired by film directors Quentin Tarantino, the Coen Brothers, and Bong Joon-Ho.

Players hit the road and journey to the nation’s border; along the way they’ll encounter characters and learn of their connected stories and secrets. The description on the official game website mentions the choices players will be able to make, adding that the “decisions will change your adventure, change the people you meet, maybe even change the world”.

During the awards show, an announcement trailer was shown (embedded below) which gave a look at Road 96′s art style, the type of decision-making players will be faced with, and a taste of the game’s soundtrack.

The lead single from the upcoming Road 96 soundtrack, “Home Call” by French DJ and electronic music producer The Toxic Avenger, is out now and available to purchase and stream from digital platforms including Amazon Music, Apple Music, Deezer, iTunes, Spotify, TIDAL, YouTube, and YouTube Music.

Music label G4F Records has uploaded a music video for the song onto its YouTube channel (embedded below); the video features footage of a camper van as it drives along the desert road, softly layered with cut sequences from the game.

DigixArt took to Twitter and revealed that the game’s soundtrack will feature other musicians too. The developer’s official announcement stated that “[t]he full soundtrack will include numerous collaborations with other artists that we’ll be revealing later in 2021.”

DigixArt has also released the first episode of a making-of video series – this first instalment (embedded below) shows some of the voice-over sessions for the game’s dialogue, as well as the motion capture for in-game characters and foley field recordings.

Road 96 is currently scheduled for a 2021 release and can be added to Steam wishlists now.
