A mixture of lo-fi hip-hop and electronic music.

Multimedia composer Adam Fligsten is set to release his Super Metroid tribute album Ceres Station with pre-orders available now ahead of its release tomorrow.

In late 2020, Fligsten set himself the task of writing an album on a live Twitch stream. To show that music production doesn’t necessarily need to be an expensive endeavour, the composer decided to only use freeware for the project. A four-minute making-of video is embedded below.

Fans can also watch a longer 10-minute video in which the composer talks more in depth about equipment and software (embedded below).

Ceres Station is an eight-track lo-fi hip-hop album that pays tribute to the original score of the 1994 action-adventure game Super Metroid, co-composed by Kenji Yamamoto and Minako Hamano. The instrumental album is a return to hip-hop and electronic music – two genres that Fligsten grew up with.

The album will be released on 6th May from major digital platforms including Apple Music, Bandcamp, Deezer, Spotify, and TIDAL.

Fligsten scored the soundtrack to the 2018 thriller-adventure Outreach and composed additional music for the 2017 fighting game Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Outside of video games, the composer has produced music for TV shows, documentaries, commercials, and short films – credits include Dateline NBC, Shark Week, and Mac Dre: Legend of the Bay.
