Voice actress wins the award for her role of Abby in The Last of Us Part II.

The Game Awards 2020 has announced the winners across 30 different categories for this year’s event.

Voice actress Laura Bailey (Marvel’s Avengers and The Pathless) won the ‘Best Performance’ award for her role of Abby in the action-adventure game The Last of Us Part II.

The category included fellow The Last of Us Part II cast member Ashley Johnson for her portrayal of Ellie, Daisuke Tsuji for Jin Sakai in Ghost of Tsushima, Logan Cunningham for his role of the eponymous character in Hades, and Nadji Jeter for Miles Morales in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

A story trailer for Abby is embedded below which takes a look at “the other side of the emotionally-gripping story of The Last of Us Part II”, showing glimpses of the violence and vengeance that connect their lives.

Award-winning actress Brie Larson (Room and Captain Marvel) presented the award (embedded below) and as part of Bailey’s acceptance speech, the voice actress said: “Oh man, I told the team on the day that I finished filming that what I wanted more than anything was for my performance to… to give a performance that honoured the impact that the original game had on me. So this award means so much.”

Bailey added: “To Ashley, who I love so much. I don’t know what else to say other than I think you should be giving the speech, right now. I think you’re amazing and your strength, your power, and your vulnerability in your performance left me speechless. I love you, marry me [laughs]”.

The Last of Us Part II won numerous awards at this year’s event, coming out on top in the ‘Best Audio’, ‘Best Game Direction’, ‘Best Narrative’, ‘Innovation in Accessibility’, ‘Best Action/Adventure’, and ‘Game of the Year’ categories.
