Soundtrack guest musicians also revealed.
Upcoming arcade brawler Streets of Rage 4 now officially has a lead composer in Olivier Derivière.
Co-developer and publisher Dotemu has announced that Derivière, the composer behind the soundtracks to stealth-horror action-adventure game A Plague Tale: Innocence, action role-playing game GreedFall, and the narrative-driven adventure game 11-11 Memories Retold, will be working alongside Streets of Rage series composers Yūzō Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima as well as a number of guest musicians.
The soundtrack to Streets of Rage 4 features a roster of international artists that include composer and sound designer Harumi Fujita, DJ-producer Scattle (of Hotline Miami and Furi), electronic music producer Das Mörtal, funk DJ XL Middleton, and electronic music producer Groundislava.
To give fans a taste of the game’s music, Dotemu has shared four more tracks on its Soundcloud page, bringing the total to five, to date. The newest tracks include “Overflow” by Groundislava, “A Ki Ra” and “Funky HQ” by Olivier Derivière, and “Next of Kin Showdown” by Das Mörtal.
Dotemu has also shared a behind-the-scenes video (embedded below) wherein Derivière talks about how the project came together in the early stages of development as well as the structuring of music within a game level and how melodies are utilised.
Due to scheduling issues, Hideki Naganuma, the composer of the Jet Set Radio series, will no longer be contributing to the Streets of Rage 4 soundtrack, at least for the time being. Fujita will be taking his place.
Streets of Rage 4 is being co-developed by Dotemu, Guard Crush Games, and Lizardcube. The game will be published by Dotemu for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows with a release planned for this spring.
