“Chippin’ In” track available to stream now.
Development studio CD Projekt Red has announced its partnership with Swedish punk rock band Refused that will bring original music to upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 by way of the in-game chrome rock band SAMURAI.
The collaboration includes the writing, recording, and production of a SAMURAI EP containing tracks “heavily inspired by the original source material,” as described in the press release.
“I’m incredibly excited about having Refused on board for Cyberpunk 2077,” explained Marcin Przybyłowicz, music director at CD Projekt Red who’s also giving creative direction on the SAMURAI EP.
“I know for a fact there are a lot of fans of the band at the studio, including Piotr Adamczyk, one of the composers working on the game, who came to me with the idea for this collaboration,” he said. “I’m very happy he did, because the massive riffs, powerful drums, and hard-hitting vocals the guys from Refused deliver as SAMURAI have blown me away.”
Taken from the forthcoming SAMURAI EP, a track called “Chippin’ In” is available now from digital outlets such as Amazon Music, Deezer, iTunes/Apple Music, Spotify, TIDAL, and YouTube.
“Chippin’ In” was also featured the game’s E3 2019 cinematic trailer which had a cameo from award-winning actor Keanu Reeves.
“Like us, SAMURAI is a group of rebels, albeit in a different time and place,” explained Dennis Lyxzén, lead vocalist of Refused. “Working together with CD PROJEKT RED, writing music and song lyrics for Cyberpunk’s chrome rock icon was fun, but also very different in the creative sense. It was an unexpected challenge that turned out to be right up our alley and really got us going. The songs turned out great and the game looks insane.”
Przybyłowicz added: “I can wholeheartedly say the punk factor of Cyberpunk 2077′s music is through the roof!”
Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world action-adventure game set in a futuristic metropolis. Players take on the role of V, a mercenary who’s in search of a cybernetic implant that might be instrumental in achieving immortality.
The game is currently scheduled for release on 16th April, 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows.
