Composer Bear McCreary talks about his work on the latest God of War instalment.

With the release of God of War today on PlayStation 4, you might also be interested to know that the game’s soundtrack is now available on streaming service Spotify.

Outside of his film and television work, Emmy Award winner Bear McCreary is perhaps also known for his work on video games such as Dark Void, SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs, and Defiance.

McCreary posted an entry on the PlayStation Blog and spoke about what it meant to work on the third-person action game and the process of writing and “finding a new sound for the franchise.”

“Of all the new pieces that I wrote for God of War, the song that means the most to me personally is probably “Memories of Mother.” This was the first theme I wrote for God of War, and it was not for the Mother – it was for Kratos himself! Inspired by the new game’s shockingly emotional story, I set out to completely reinvent the musical language of this character, to compose an unexpectedly beautiful theme for Kratos.”
