Composer Lena Raine found it “an intimidating prospect” to return to Celeste for the final time.
To coincide with the launch of the Chapter 9: Farewell downloadable content for platform game Celeste, composer Lena Raine and music label Materia Collective have released the DLC update’s official soundtrack across a range of digital outlets.
Chapter 9: Farewell is a new chapter in the game’s story and free for all available platforms once Chapter 8 is completed. It includes over 100 levels and serves as the send-off for the world of Celeste. This chapter does not have a B- or C-Side.
The Celeste: Farewell soundtrack is available now from outlets such as Bandcamp, Google Play, and iTunes, as well as streaming services including Apple Music, Deezer, Spotify, and TIDAL.
Update: A limited vinyl edition will be available from Ship To Shore at a later date.
“It’s been an intimidating prospect, to return to the world of Celeste for one more outing,” Raine explained.
“The soundtrack to Farewell might be off-putting on first listen, and I don’t know if people will like it less, as much, or more than what I wrote first,” she said. “It’s impossible to live up to high expectations, so I did what I always do: try to stay true to what kind of story I want to express, and what emotions that brings out. I hope that worked.”
Developed and published by Matt Makes Games, Celeste is available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Linux, macOS, and Windows.
Going forward, the studio will operate under the new name of Extremely OK Games.
