Music label Materia Collective has released the soundtrack to upcoming point-and-click adventure game The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark.
The game is a sequel to and picks up after the events of 2017’s The Darkside Detective; the game is set in Twin Lakes and features six cases for players – taking on the role of Detective McQueen – to solve as they attempt to rescue their sidekick Officer Dooley.
The soundtrack to The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark is composed by Thomas O’Boyle and comprises 33 tracks of music inspired by John Carpenter films from the ’80s, mystery television series Twin Peaks, wrestling themes, power ballads, horror elements, and the composer’s trip to Ireland.
“I wanted to evoke a kind of 80s-style noir affair but it was important that there be a subtle silliness bubbling beneath the surface,” O’Boyle explained. “The overall diversity is something I’m hugely proud of given that I intentionally limited myself to a relatively narrow range of instruments.”
The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark‘s soundtrack can be purchased and streamed from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Bandcamp, Deezer, iTunes, Spotify, and YouTube Music ahead of the game’s release next week.
The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark is developed by Spooky Doorway and published by Akupara Games. The game will be released on 15th April for Linux, macOS, and Windows; a release for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Stadia is also scheduled for April.
