The debut of the Video Game Jazz Orchestra.

The music from Super Mario 64 has had a jazzy reinterpretation courtesy of the Video Game Jazz Orchestra.

The soundtrack to the 1996 3D platformer, originally composed by Koji Kondo, has been reimagined with a big band approach in Hang on to Your Hat, led by producer David Russell (of EPOCH: A Tribute to Chrono Trigger, Hearts of Light, and FALLEN: An Undertale Tribute).

The album comprises 11 tracks arranged by multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Laura Intravia (of Time’s End: Majora’s Mask Remixed and Sole), pianist Julian “Zorsy” Sanchez (of Multiplayer: A Tribute to Video Games and Multiplayer II: Co-Op), trombonist Daniel Romberger (of EXILE: A Tribute to Supergiant Games and Devolver Digital Cinematic Universe: Phase 1), and pianist Trevor Alan Gomes (of Celeste Piano Collections and Fossil Hunters).

They’re joined by saxophonist Sean Schafianski (of Chamber Works: NieR Automata and EIDOLON: Music from Final Fantasy IX), percussionist and pianist Ben Wallace (of Harmony of a Champion and LAUNCH: StarCraft Reimagined), percussionist Doug Perry (of Hero of Time and FATE: A Tribute to Majora’s Mask), pianist David Peacock (of Parallelus and Hollow Knight Piano Collections), and bassist Sam Bobinski (of OMEGA: A Tribute to Xenogears and MENU: An Homage to Game Title Themes).

Pre-orders for Hang on to Your Hat are available now ahead of the album’s full release on 8th May.
