As adventure game Bubsy: Paws on Fire! launches today on PlayStation 4 and Windows, music label Materia Collective releases the game’s official soundtrack across major digital stores and streaming services.

Composed by Stemage, founder of cover band Metroid Metal and guitar player for animated series Steven Universe, the Bubsy: Paws on Fire! soundtrack is a collection of lighthearted electro tracks with rock and chiptune elements.

“The music of Bubsy: Paws on Fire! is built out of puzzle pieces,” Stemage explained. “Unique character layers build on base tracks to create different songs for each character. Song segments allow parts of each song to be played in any order – keeping things fresh when replaying levels. It was a challenge, but limitations like this are what keep us creative! Between that, a new instrument palette, and working with Choice Provisions, making the Bubsy music was a total blast.”

It seems Choice Provisions, formerly known as Gaijin Games – creator of the BIT.TRIP series, provided Stemage with an amount of creative freedom that didn’t go to waste.

The composer added: “Those guys let me get weird. If you hear a hi-hat playing Morse code during one of the songs, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

The Bubsy: Paws on Fire! soundtrack is available now at digital outlets such as Bandcamp, iTunes/Apple Music, and Amazon, as well as streaming platforms including Deezer, Spotify, and TIDAL.
