Music from Rupert Holmes and UB40.

For this week’s Rock Band 4 downloadable content update fans are getting the lead single from Rupert Holmes‘ Partners in Crime album, and a popular UB40 cover of a Neil Diamond song.

The tracks included in this week’s DLC update, available from 6th September, are:

  • Rupert Holmes – “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)”
  • UB40 – “Red Red Wine”

The following descriptions are taken from the release notes:

“Escape (The Piña Colada Song)” is the hit single and lead track off Rupert Holmes’ sophomore LP, Partners in Crime. The single rapidly rose to the top of the charts shortly after release. In fact, it’s the only pop song to reach #1 in the US in two different decades, as it placed during the final week of 1979 and the first week of 1980. “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)” continues to reach new audiences thanks to various film placements and consistent radio rotation. The famous chorus makes a great addition to any in-game karaoke setlists, while the chipper guitar line has tons of variety between a few common chord patterns.

“Red Red Wine”, performed by British act UB40, is one of the standout tracks off their first album of cover songs, Labour of Love. The song is a cover of Neil Diamond’s 1967 ballad, and Diamond himself claims it’s one of his favorite covers (he often performed UB40’s arrangement in concert). “Red Red Wine” hit #1 in the US, Canada, and the UK and reached gold status in all three countries. The percolating bass line instills a classic Caribbean groove while the contagious vocals will have the whole room singing along.

Tracks can be bought individually.
