Soundfall getting a multi-platform release next year.
The debut game from Drastic Games – a new studio founded by alumni from Epic Games – is a music-driven action adventure game called Soundfall and is scheduled for release next year.
Gameplay in Soundfall is a mixture of twin-stick shooting and rhythm-based mechanics. Players can play together online or offline co-op with up to four people.
As described in the press release, “music drives every aspect of this rhythmic dungeon crawler.”
Soundfall’s levels, enemies, loot, and more are procedurally-generated by and dynamically react to a range of musical elements, changing not only from song to song but measure to measure as tunes build and die away. Battles synchronize to the beat, rewarding players who dash and slash in time to the beat with impressive dance-like combos.
Players will be searching for gear and upgrades including “audio-driven powers”. Different playable characters come with their own playstyles.
Drastic Games content director Julian Trutmann said: “Music connects people in ways that are difficult to articulate. It’s been an incredible pleasure working with such an emotionally engaging medium.”
Nick Cooper, Drastic Games technical director, added: “Syncing literally everything in the game to music has been an awesome technical challenge… But it’s been a tremendously rewarding process, and we’re excited to finally share Soundfall with players.”
Soundfall is scheduled for release in 2019 for Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
